FAQs

  • A state trademark protects your brand name, logo, or slogan within your state. It prevents other businesses in your state from using your mark and gives you legal standing if conflicts arise.

    • State trademark: A state trademark registration is issued by your state’s trademark office and protects your mark inside that state only. It’s ideal if you operate locally and use your mark within one state. A state registration doesn’t provide nationwide rights and doesn’t allow the ® symbol, use TM/SM unless and until you obtain a federal registration. The State Trademark approval is typically faster and more affordable.

    • USPTO trademark: Protects your brand nationwide but is more expensive and can take months to process.
Most businesses start with a state trademark and expand federally as they grow.

    • Faster approval (often processed in weeks, not months.)

    • Lower cost (no $1,000+ upfront fees)

    • Builds credibility with customers, investors, and distributors

    • Provides a strong foundation for future USPTO registration

  • State trademark registrations are typically much faster than USPTO filings, often processed in weeks rather than months. Exact timelines depend on the state and how quickly you provide the required information.

  • Every state charges its own government fee for trademark registration (generally between $30 and $150 per class). This cost is passed through and billed separately from your package price.
